From Hype to Action: Catch Up on Expert Insights, Practical Strategies, and Everything You Missed from the Day

From the first coffee and handshake, it was clear AI Summit 2025 wasn’t about hype, it was about substance. This was a space for legal and technology leaders across Australia to speak frankly about where AI is delivering value, where it isn’t yet ready, and how to navigate the path forward.

The event was at capacity, reflecting a profession that is ready to engage with AI on a serious, practical level. The conversations were candid, the networking was valuable, and the key insights offered clear pathways forward.

With the legal sector at an inflection point, the Summit focused on how to move from experimentation to meaningful, measurable impact while managing risk responsibly.

Highlights That Moved the Conversation Forward

Welcome & Setting the Tone – Katy Fixter

The new Managing Director of LexisNexis® Asia & Pacific opened AI Summit 2025 with a clear message: the legal profession stands at the threshold of an AI-driven era, and success will come from focusing on business impact beyond the hype.

She acknowledged the excitement surrounding AI but grounded the conversation in the practical realities of legal work; from client needs to ethical obligations. Katy set the expectation that the day would be about practical insights, candid discussion, and actionable strategies rather than abstract predictions.

AI as the New User Interface – Greg Dickason

Greg explored how AI is moving from a background process to a front-facing interface, enabling legal research, drafting, and analysis to become more intuitive, efficient, and personalised.

Balancing Risk and Innovation – Lee Hickin

Lee focused on the delicate equilibrium between moving fast enough to seize AI opportunities and ensuring the right safeguards are in place. His message was clear: innovation and risk management aren’t opposing forces - they can, and must, progress together if organisations want sustainable AI adoption.

Bridging the Divide: Compliance – Jen Bradley

Jen brought the compliance conversation into sharp focus, unpacking the legal, ethical, and regulatory challenges that come with AI adoption. She outlined a practical governance approach designed to unlock AI’s value without compromising on compliance, offering clear, actionable steps for embedding governance into everyday practice.

AI-Powered Personalisation – Seeta Bodke

This closing session showcased how a lawyer-focused AI assistant could integrate seamlessly into daily workflows with a showcase on Lexis+ AI® now with Protégé™. Seeta ran through the new LexisNexis product that enhances productivity, supports decision-making, and creates more tailored client experiences.

In Their Own Words: How the AI Summit is Shaping the Future of Legal Tech

The AI Summit brought together a diverse group of professionals eager to explore the practical impact of AI in their fields. Here’s a glimpse of what some attendees had to say about their experience and key takeaways from the event:
❝This is my second year attending the AI Summit, and we always receive great insights. I enjoy taking the time to look at the big picture in AI, and Greg and Lee from the Government were really great. Most importantly, I enjoyed the panel where we got insight from actual real-world cases.I think AI is really going to change the game for all law firms. We’re all moving in that direction, and I think it’s going to ramp up research, build on the quality of the product, and, with the ability to turn things around faster, allow you to put more into your offering.❞
– Melanie Elron, Dentons Australia
❝It’s been a great Summit, with lots of ideas shared and visions of the future with agentic AI, which is definitely the next stage. It was interesting hearing how unlikely it will be that AI will be used to automate the entire end-to-end process of what lawyers do, but more in the middle stages of the process for things like document review, summarising etc. Lawyers will still play an important role at the beginning and end points of the process for strategy and risk mitigation. I think that’s the value proposition lawyers have, and AI being able to take on some of that heavy lifting in the middle is where it’s going to add real value.❞
