About Dena Somers

Dena is the founder of FinReg Partners and provides regulatory compliance and risk management guidance to a broad range of banks, lenders, lead generators, and financial services companies across the U.S. Drawing on more than 20 years of in-house legal and consulting experience, Dena provides clients with practical, business-oriented solutions from her extensive experience with the operational, not just theoretical, impact of regulations.
Prior to founding FinReg Partners, Dena served as General Counsel/Chief Compliance Officer to a national mortgage servicing company, mortgage lender, online consumer installment lender, and money service business. In private practice, she has represented both consumers and financial institutions in a broad array of complex litigation matters for more than 15 years. 

Dena regularly advises clients on a broad spectrum of compliance matters, as well as overall governance and risk management expectations (strategic, operational, reputational, and compliance risk). Her areas of expertise include BSA/AML, consumer lending, mortgage origination and servicing, privacy, information security, and third-party risk management. 

Dena authors several compliance and risk management publications for LexisNexis including, BSA/AML Internal Audit and Risk Management, BSA and AML Service, BSA Officers Handbook, Bank and Credit Union Regulatory Compliance Alert, Bank Security Desk Reference, Loan Policies Manual, Self-Paced Loan Documentation and Training, and Bank Teller Training. She has also authored articles on the regulation of Fintech and bank partnerships, the regulation of money service businesses, and online marketplace lending for Lexis Practice Advisor.
